Consider the following figure. (Assume R1 = 29.0 Ω, R2 = 22.0 Ω, and V = 18.0 V.)

Solution.

Let’s use Kirchhoff’s Laws

Vab = E-I*R

Vab = 10 – I * 5

Vab = 18 – I1 * 29

Vab = 0 – I2 * 22

I = I1 + I2

From this equations we will have

10 – I * 5 = 18 – I1 *29

10 – I * 5 = I2 * 22

I = I1 + I2

And Finally

I = 0.69A From A to B at the center through R= 5 Om

I1 = 0.4A From B to A through R1

I2 = 0.29A From B to A through R2
