The two bricks.

DSC08260-BThere are two bricks on a wood board. One brick is laid on its long narrow side (face) and another one is laid on its wide side. The bricks weigh the same. What is the first brick slip off, if we will tilt the board?

The force which prevent slipping of the bricks is a static friction force. The maximum force of static friction depends on the normal force and on the coefficient of friction. Both the normal force and the coefficient of friction bricks are same. Thereby, bricks will slip at the same time.

  1. Both bricks will fall off the incline at the same time. The frictional force on the board is based on the coefficient of friction and the force on the surface, but not on the amount of surface. Since the mass of both bricks are the same the Normal force is going to be the same and thus the frictional force.
