Why do track bicycles sometimes have a disk wheel?

Answer. Posted on Saturday, January 10, 2015.

Disk shaped wheels provide an aerodynamic advantage over a spoked wheels. They have been designed for sport use where the goal is to help the rider maintain a steady speed. However, crosswinds push against the side of the bike and interfere with the rider’s ability to steer. In this connection, we don’t see disk shaped wheels at the front and if a side wind is a problem they will be swap out for the spoked wheels.
