How long does it take sunlight to reach the Earth?

First of all, the Earth orbit the Sun at a distance of about 150 million kilometers or 1.5*10^11 meters.
The speed of light is about 3*10^8 m/s. In order to answer a question, we will use the following equation:
t = d/v, where d – distance in meters, v – speed in meters per second and t – time in seconds.

t = 1.5*10^11 / 3*10^8 = 500 sec

We know that 1 minute equals 60 seconds, hence, 500 / 60 = 8.33 minutes = 8 minutes 20 seconds.

Finally, 500 seconds = 8.33 minutes = 8 minutes 20 seconds.
